Let's Get To Know You;;
3rd April 2008
I had just receive a phone call informing me of Sherlock's disappearance and the fact that Firebrand had been given a group of horses. I grabbed the paper, I had jotted down the horses' names on: Admiral's Shadow - the filly we had sold to Hawkstone, Aphrodite - young TB filly, No One's Lover - purebred paint trained for western and MS Maiden Chardonnay - Sherlock's own words, 'she's a neat little girl that I think you could make into your next Northern Dancer'.
I glanced over the words I had scribbled down before scrunching up the paper and shoving it into my back pocket of my jeans. Kirsty had just told me that the horse lorry had just arrived, so I made my way out to the lorry park. The morning was peaceful and the sun was just warming up the frost ground. I pushed back a blonde curl as I turned the corner to see the lorry parked up.
That was quick! I admitted to Jack who had picked up the horses. Well they were all good to load and the roads were almost empty. He smiled, closing the driver's door to come and hug me, kissing my lips lightly before walking round to the back. The paint horse is pretty old but she's in very good shape and Addie seems fit as a fiddle... He broke off as he pulled down the ramp.In her notes, Aphrodite's been retiring from racing but she's only two so what should we do with her? I chuckled. I haven't even set eyes on her yet! I clambered up the ramp to join Jack.
I slipped in through the groom's walkway to find Addie looking down at me.Hey there girl! I stroked her soft muzzle. Nice to see you again.Addie yawned as I untied her lead rope, I stroked her soft neck before walking her down and off the ramp.
Glancing across her body I replied to Jack's previous comment, She looks fab. Kirsty take her up to the barn will you? Thanks.
Kirsty took the lead from my head and headed off with Addie up to the training barn.
Jack had already unloaded Aphrodite. Standing back I took a look over her, She looks like she would be a good jumper, definitely got the hind quarters for it. But she can be let out with the broods for now, just to let her grow up a bit. I smiled. The bay filly squealed as Elliot, a groom, took the lead and crop hopped round in a circle. Steady girl.. he cooed softly, patting her silky neck. The filly lifted her top lip and tossed her head playfully. She seems like a handful I chuckled softly. I think she's just playing! replied Elliot, who scratched behind her ear before walking her off to the stables.
The next to be unloaded was the paint mare. Aww I love her coat colour I exclaimed. Her beautiful black tobiano coat shimmered in the morning light as she whinnied out. So how old is she exactly? I asked Jack as I walked her over to the grassy bank. Ermm eighteen although I don't think she looks it! He replied. Serious? Eighteen. Whoa she's in great condition. I stroked the mare's soft neck. I guess we'll have to find a western rider now! I giggled, handing the lead to Jessica, who followed the others up to the barn.
So, therefore the last horse to be unloaded was MS Maiden Chardonnay. The gorgeous black bay filly stepped down the ramp gracefully. Her lips separated into a high whinny as Jack gave me her lead. Hello beautiful. I traced her dazzling white stripe with my hand. Jack, she's amazing. I stroked her silky soft neck.The filly stood proud as I admired her, almost lapping up the attention. Well I'm sure she'll make a fantastic racer, you just gotta get her fitness up. I looked back at Jack, Well obviously.. I shook my head, Men. Come on then gorgeous, let's get you up to your stall. I nudged the filly into a walk, and walked her up to the barn.
