Northern Dancer’s cream of the crop, PardonMyFrench is the new boy on the block at Firebrand. He is the spitting image of his sire – gorgeous silky black coat, stunning white markings and beautiful brown eyes. Frenchie, as he is aptly nick-named, has taken on more of his dam’s conformation with a long neck set against a deep chest with a fairly short, compact back and powerful hindquarters with strong second thighs that Northern Dancer missed. He loves attention and if he doesn’t get any when he wants he will scream until he gets it. Seriously, like a little child loosing his candy, if Frenchie paws the ground, it either means he wants food or attention, and if you don’t give him any, well, he whinnies, almost screeching non stop until he gets his pat, scratch or apple. That’s another thing he absolutely adores – syrup covered apple slices – only given as a special treat mind you, but once you hand him the sticky slice, he will love you forever! Once the metal bar is placed in his soft mouth, Frenchie switches from spunky, arrogant colt, to hard working, ground eating machine. He totally loves racing and you can see it in his expressions when he runs. When he is really, really enjoying what he is doing, his tongue sticks out. Weird I know, right? But we’ve noticed ever since we first ran him on the hometrack, and weirdly enough, always down the homestretch, he sticks his tongue out. We’ve ruled out exhaustion, as we’ve raced him at different lengths and he always does it so it will be interesting to see whether this continues through his racing career.
