A p r i l . S h o w e r s
It had been a busy day at Firebrand. All the hustle and bustle of training the horses, getting them fit for races, keeping them clean, just about anything. I sat under the large oak tree as I watched the black colt graze in the nearby paddock. His cropped mane fluttered as he picked delicately at the green blades of juicy grass.
Bentley was settling in well to Firebrand and he had made friends with one of the more quiet stables' cat, Coral. He himself also seemed a pretty quiet, shy chap and would often stay grazing in the furthest corner of his paddock, away from the noise of the busy yard. And at this moment in time I felt that way too. Just wanted to be somewhere quiet and peaceful.
Although we were enjoying warm weather, Bentley was still rugged up well, with a neck cover, tail bag and leg bandages. Probably just as well too as I saw the raindrops start their descent towards the ground. I grabbed the hood of my jumper and wrapped it over my blonde curls. It wasn't waterproof, but it would keep most of the rain off. I watched as Bentley nodded his head whenever a raindrop landed on his soft muzzle and giggled to see him perform his 'rain dance' of hops and stamps as he tried determinedly to stop the rain.
As the rain fell down heavier, I stood up from my seat under the oak tree and looked back at Bentley, still prancing around, as I dashed back towards the barn to stay out of the rain.
